Consistency makes a difference in your business. Being bold matters too. You are not going to please everyone. If you are not bold, you won’t please anyone. You’ll wonder “If only…”
Consistency makes a difference in our back yard. My husband, Paul, has attracted almost every bird known in Alaska to our yard. How? He consistently puts birdseed in our feeders during the Alaskan winter.
It began slowly. Boreal and Black-capped Chickadees and Common Redpolls started appearing daily. Then Downy Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, and Three-Toed Woodpeckers discovered blocks of suet hung in our aspen trees.
Years of hauling many massive bags of seed rewarded us by attracting pairs of Red-breasted Nuthatches. We watch them grab seed, wedge it into the bark of the balsam popular trees, and break it open with their beaks to get a nutritious nugget. It’s rare to see Nuthatches in Fairbanks. We are fortunate to enjoy their upside-down antics in the winter. Large plump Pine Grosbeaks surprise us with their brilliant flashy colors. They are shy and flighty.
Black oil sunflower seed in the shell is attractive to the birds because of its high fat content. It is clear that our yard is the one that the birds visit first every day. Hungry chickadees zip in for nourishment to survive arctic temperatures. Timing is crucial for their tiny bodies. They have to know where the food is to survive. They trust our yard and rush in to the feast.
That is what you want for your business. Customers to think of you first and feel the best about you. Consistent messaging will allow the public to know your story.
We want to help you be bold. Bold strategy with bold consistent communication. Being bold makes the difference between being remembered and being ignored.
Birds fly in to our yard all winter. If we are absent and there is no seed, our yard becomes a deserted void. Even after feeders are full of seed again. It takes time for our feathered friends to fly back. We lost their trust. It takes time to rebuild.
Your customers are a lot smarter than birds but they will forget you too if you stop telling your story. Consistency with your marketing will make a difference. You must also have consistency WITHIN your business. Every interaction an employee has with a customer needs to tell the same story. Your customers have formed a bond with you from your marketing and when they experience something different from what they expected, they feel cheated, shortchanged, let down, used, and abused. They won’t be back.
We can’t promise our birds black oil sunflower seeds and then start using inferior dyed seed. The birds would eliminate our address from their feathery memory banks. Consistent messaging in all areas of communication is a necessity. Consistent customer service. Consistency.
A Ruffed Grouse flew in this week and has been returning every day. Paul needs to get more birdseed since our numbers keep going up.
