Stomp through the woods, and every animal knows you’re coming; stay downwind, walk quietly, and you’ll see the animals in the woods. Some tech companies make a lot of noise about what they are doing and what’s coming next. Others just do stuff to make their product better, and the noise comes when everyone figures out what’s been happening silently.
The opposite of silent is Brian Brushwood, a loud and proud YouTuber, and he has been for the last ten-plus years. Meaning he derives his income from YouTube and his related websites. Every day, Brian produces content and measures its effectiveness. During a recent call with our shared Wizard of Ads client, Brian reviewed some of the recent changes YouTube has made.
Under content on your YouTube Channel, you will find:
- Videos (long-form video content) – this is what everyone currently knows YouTube for.
- Shorts (portrait-style short content) – this is currently the fastest-growing segment of YouTube. It competes directly with TikTok and Instagram/FB Reels.
- Live – the ability to host a live show,
- POSTS [New] (what written content on YouTube),
- Playlists,
- PODCASTS [Recent addition] (let’s get all the podcasters on YouTube, and turn us into a true podcast hosting platform for content producers),
- COURSES [New] (let’s add learning content because the number one search on YouTube is “How To…”, and figure out a way to monetize it for the content producer and for YouTube),
- PROMOTIONS [New] (Hmmm…. Promotions…),
- COLLABORATIONS [New] (the ability to easily work with other content producers).
YouTube is making its platform the easiest and best place to host, share, and measure the success of your content. YouTube is becoming the world’s number one Internet Entertainment platform.
Destroying Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook as the number one social entertainment platform accessible on your phone, computer, tablet and TV. Attracting more paid advertising to YouTube and, therefore, growing Google’s Advertising Revenue. Google will leverage AdWords to let us insert ads into the content stream of our choosing on their platform, making it easy for content producers to share in that revenue stream.
All of that, on top of working closely with content producers to make it easier to use and more effective at helping them succeed and find viewers.
Silently, YouTube will stay at the front and beat the competition.
Do you have a short video content strategy for your business? Are you silently building an audience of loyal subscribers with your content?
